TrueScripts Announces CEO Transition

August 12, 2021

TrueScripts Management Services is excited to publicize the successful transition of Chief Executive Officer from Founder Nathan Gabhart, RPh, to President

Dean Merder. Nathan will continue to serve on the Board of Directors alongside TrueScripts Co-Founders Kevin Messmer, J.D., and John Bell.

“This fearless transition of leadership is a direct reflection of the remarkable TrueScripts team,” says Nathan. “To have the confidence to take this company that we built from scratch and pass the torch with conviction is a true testament to Dean and the entire TrueScripts team.” Nathan continues, “I want to make it very clear to our team and our stakeholders, TrueScripts is not going anywhere. We have a moral obligation that cannot be bought out. TrueScripts was born from a philosophical mission to provide truly transparent pharmacy benefit solutions. The basis of this mission is to build lasting relationships, and Dean is absolutely the best at that. My confidence in sustained success is founded in his rich history of leadership and our team’s extraordinary ability to create and deliver innovative solutions.”

In September of 2018, Dean Merder was brought on as the Chief Experience Officer with rapid promotion to President in November of 2020. In these positions, Dean has served as a beacon of sorts – guiding the TrueScripts team to uphold the company’s core values - Integrity, Respect, Innovation, and Service - and project them unto the people we serve. His forward-thinking and open-minded attitude has proven to be highly successful, reflecting our client and team member retention rates that remain in the mid 90’s.

“I believe that the most important aspect of my job has been and will continue to be serving as a Keeper of the Culture,” says Dean. “Nathan, Kevin, and John built a rock-solid foundation for TrueScripts, and we are well-positioned for a promising and prosperous future. It is my duty to continue guiding their creation in a way that stimulates the grit, compassion, and skill needed to make a positive impact on the lives of others. It is a privilege to lead this principled company and to build upon Nathan’s legacy. I vow to lead each day with purpose as I encourage our team to challenge the norm, empower them to push the envelope, inspire them to act with empathy, and energize them when times are weary.”

Nathan’s vision of building a PBM that does things “the right way” has quickly developed into a nationwide operation, which solidifies his belief that “if you do good things, good things will happen.” Going forward, the TrueScripts innoveering team will focus on sustainable cost-saving solutions, continued client and member satisfaction, enhanced clinical outcomes, new technology services, and dedication to our team.

All that we do will reflect our commitment to Amazing Care!

At TrueScripts, giving isn’t just an occasional act—it’s woven into the fabric of who we are. From the company’s inception, our founders envisioned a culture that prioritized not just business success, but also the betterment of our communities. This commitment is reflected in everything we do, from our annual profit tithing to the personal generosity we encourage among our team members. Each year, TrueScripts donates 10% of its profits to charitable organizations. This isn’t a practice we adopted over time; it’s a cornerstone of our mission. It underscores our belief that success isn’t solely measured in dollars, but in the impact we can have on others. Our Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) program empowers every team member to make a difference. Each year, employees receive funds to donate to nonprofit organizations they’re passionate about. This program fosters personal connections to causes, ensuring our giving resonates deeply and authentically. But it doesn’t stop there. Around the holidays, team members are gifted additional RAK funds to spread kindness in everyday life. Whether it’s paying for a stranger’s coffee, leaving an extra-generous tip at a favorite restaurant, or helping a family in need, the choice is theirs. These acts of kindness create ripple effects, bringing joy and relief in ways that may seem small but often mean the world to those on the receiving end. In addition, we maintain a dedicated pool of RAK funds overseen by a committee. This resource allows us to respond to extraordinary circumstances—a coworker’s friend battling cancer, a family rebuilding after a house fire, or countless other situations where immediate support can provide a lifeline. At TrueScripts, giving extends beyond financial contributions. Our team actively participates in volunteer opportunities, faith-based services, and community events. Our goal is not only to share our expertise in prescription benefits but to create an environment of support and encouragement, fostering hope for those around us. We are proud of our giving culture and the difference we make—individually and collectively. Through intentional acts of kindness, faith-driven service, and community support, TrueScripts reaffirms its mission to not only improve lives but to inspire others to do the same.
